Forte Belgica
About Forte Belgica
The most photogenic Dutch colonial fort in Indonesia, rising dramatically on a hill above Banda Neira town with pentagonal walls and sweeping views of the volcano Gunung Api across the strait. Built in 1611, it remains remarkably well-preserved.
Getting to Forte Belgica
10-minute walk uphill from Banda Neira harbor. Open daily, small entrance donation appreciated. Best visited in the late afternoon when the light hits the volcano directly opposite.
