Sukamade Beach
About Sukamade Beach
A remote black-sand beach deep inside Meru Betiri National Park where green and leatherback turtles nest year-round, with September through March as peak season. The night patrol and release ritual — watching hatchlings make their first scramble to the sea — is one of the most affecting wildlife experiences in Indonesia.
Getting to Sukamade Beach
2.5-hour drive from Banyuwangi town through plantation roads, with a river crossing that requires a 4WD vehicle. Overnight stays are necessary to join the patrol; basic guesthouses are available inside the park.
